Brace yourselves

So, summer’s over. I suppose this really means more to people still in school than it does to those who don’t get summers off.
What it does mean to everyone in the country is that the weather is now going from “scorching hot” to “trying to drown us”.

Every year, we suffer through terrible typhoons and lose people and property (and dignity) to the floods. And year after year, no one seems to want to do anything about it. Because once the sun comes out, we forget. We complain about the heat, and we forget.

Most of you reading this are probably the luckier ones. You have a roof over your head, money in the bank, and friends and family you can rely on to get you through just about any disaster. You have a job to go back to even if nature destroys your roof. And if not, at least the skills and qualifications to find work if you lose your job. Not everyone can say the same. There are little kids out there who will have to brave the storms huddled together without jackets, under whatever tree or storefront can give them the semblance of shelter. Perhaps their parents were lazy, perhaps they’re dead. But there sure as hell enough of them out there who deserve better.

What can we do? I don’t know.

Try to stay dry, everyone. Be safe.

So, what do you think ?
